ABOUT CHARLOTTE MOTOR SPEEDWAY

Charlotte Motor Speedway, located in Concord, North Carolina, is one of the most important venues in NASCAR and a true landmark of American motorsport. Opened in 1960 by track builder Bruton Smith and driver Curtis Turner, the facility has become the centerpiece of stock car racing, with many NASCAR teams and headquarters based just a few miles away in the Charlotte area.

The speedway is unique because it offers two distinct NASCAR layouts, each with its own character and tradition:

  • The 1.5-mile quad-oval: This classic “cookie-cutter” oval is far from ordinary. It has hosted legendary races for more than six decades, most notably the Coca-Cola 600 on Memorial Day weekend, NASCAR’s longest race at 600 miles. Known for its high speeds, multiple grooves, and races that often run well into the night under the lights, the oval has produced some of the most dramatic moments in NASCAR history.
  • The 2.28-mile Roval road course: Added in 2018, the Roval blends the high banks of the oval with a technical infield road course. Featuring 17 turns, sharp chicanes, and tight braking zones, it demands a different skill set from drivers and has quickly earned a reputation as one of the most unpredictable and exciting playoff races. The Bank of America Roval 400 serves as a critical cutoff race, where championship dreams are often made or broken.

Together, these two layouts give Charlotte Motor Speedway a rare versatility – able to host both traditional oval showdowns and road-course strategy battles, ensuring fans get the best of both NASCAR worlds.
