Whether you’re heading to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the first time or you’ve been a regular for years, a bit of planning can make your race weekend much easier. From dodging traffic delays to staying comfortable through a long day at the track, here are some things to keep in mind.
Arrive early. Saturdays are especially busy, so aim to be at the track by late morning. It’s much more enjoyable to explore the Fan Zone, grab some food, and soak up the pre-race atmosphere than to be stuck in traffic or waiting in long security lines.
Pack smart. You’re welcome to bring your own snacks and drinks, which helps save money and keeps you fueled for the day. Just remember that glass bottles aren’t allowed. Early October in Concord is usually milder than the peak summer months, but afternoons can still be warm. Dress light, use sunscreen, and keep hydrated.
Plan for traffic. Roads around the speedway fill quickly on race days, so allow extra travel time. Check your route in advance, and if possible, reserve parking ahead of time for a smoother arrival.
Make the most of your day. Once inside, think about what you want to see and do. Between merchandise stands, driver appearances, and different viewing spots, it’s easy to lose track of time. Cell service can get spotty with so many fans in one place, so if you’re coming with friends or family, agree on a meeting spot before you split up.
